Workshop Title: Team Research Reimagined: Applying Diverse Perspectives on Team Interactions

This workshop aims to stimulate the use of a greater variety of research methods in team studies. Participants will gain insights into: case analyses of extreme teams, how to deal with small samples and rich multimethod data, possibilities and limitations of conducting behavioural observations of human-AI teams in the ICU, how to conduct large-scale intervention and evaluation studies in OR teams, what to consider when using biomarkers and computational approaches to study coordination in action teams, how to conduct an ethnographic study and obtain thick descriptions of emergency teams, and methods for observing team processes in medical teams in simulation settings.

Workshop Title: The Teamwork Revolution: Co-Designing the Future of How We Teach, Learn, and Work Together

Facilitators: Martijn Van der Kamp, Monash Business School & Kyle Christensen, Clemson University

This co-design workshop explores a pressing question: How can we enhance the student and educator experience of teamwork as a job-ready skill in higher education? Teamwork is a powerful driver of transformative learning, a space for diversity, inclusion and belonging, and a critical competency for professional success. Yet, students and educators alike struggle with it. In this interactive workshop, we will leverage teamwork, co-design, and futures thinking to diagnose key issues, reimagine approaches to teamwork education, and explore INGroup’s role in shaping this transformation. Through collaborative exercises, participants will identify key challenges, generate innovative strategies, share best practices, and gain practical tools to enhance teamwork education in their contexts.

This workshop seeks to: (a) Identify key challenges in teamwork education across disciplines and learning environments, (b) Generate innovative, evidence-based strategies to enhance teamwork education, (c) Define actionable steps for integrating teamwork education into curricula and institutional policies (d) capture insights to inform future INGroup initiatives and research.

Workshop Title: Develop an Example Computational Process Model to Study Teamwork With R and RStudio

Facilitator: Goran Kuljanin, DePaul University

The workshop will be an active learning experience. It will include: (a) learning about the differences between narrative construct theories versus computational process theories, (b) an overview of the general steps involved in developing computational process models, (c) using R and RStudio to demonstrate how to program a computational process model to study teamwork, (d) learning about how to execute a virtual experiment with the computational process model.

The workshop includes access to the completed code to facilitate assistance with coding errors attendees may generate as they program the model. Participants will have access to hands-on support during the workshop and will have access to a recorded version of the workshop for additional learning after the workshop.

Workshop Title: Mix, Mingle, and Measure with ConfLab: Experience and Shape New Interdisciplinary Paradigms for Group Dynamics Research

In addition to our typical preconference workshop offering, there is an addition preconference session that includes a novel combination of both learning about multimodal approaches to studying groups alongside actually participating in a study involving multimodal approaches. We would like to bring to your attention our pre-conference workshop “Mix, Mingle, and Measure with ConfLab: Experience and Shape New Interdisciplinary Paradigms for Group Dynamics Research”. It will be held in the afternoon of July 17 at the 20th Annual INGRoup Conference.

This interdisciplinary workshop has three overarching and interconnected aims, all under the motto “by the community, for the community”:

1. Building connections and creating networking opportunities among scholars across disciplines and career stages, but who share a common interest: understanding group dynamics through innovate multimodal paradigms!
2. Inspiring future interdisciplinary research and fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations on multimodal group interaction data using sensor data.
3. Generating a rich dataset of multi-modal group interaction, which will be made available for participants and the broader research community.
